Welcome to my portfolio

I am a biology instructor dedicated to using inclusive evidence-based teaching practices to engage and teach undergraduate students critical thinking skills. I have taught at several higher education institutions including UW Bothell, UW Seattle, and Edmonds CC. I am currently a mentor for the Science Teaching Experience for Postdocs (STEP) program and am training PhD researchers on student-centered teaching and course design.

My expertise is in the fields of molecular, cell, and developmental biology; neuroscience; biochemistry; and genetics.  I am also a consulting scientist in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at UW Seattle, where I use the gene editing technology CRISPR-Cas9 to develop tools for studying the effects of chemicals on oxidative stress in fish.

As a member of the STEP Forward program, an extension of STEP program I have developed an outreach activity that she developed through the STEP Forward program and Pacific Science Center’s Science Communication Fellowship is on gene editing and how the CRISPR-Cas9 technology works.

Eva believes in the importance of a scientific-literate public, evidence-based policies, and investment (financial and otherwise) in science and science education. Like many adjunct instructors, she has struggled with finding permanent full-time teaching positions in part due to decreased public funding of education and scientific research. She lives in Seattle with her husband, daughter, and 4 chickens.
